Well, as a few of you know Ive not long been back from a weeks fishing in the New Forest.

What did I think of Lake Farm?

The only 2 things that could have made it better were the weather, no one can do anything about that, and the fact I didn't catch a double figure carp! And again, nothing can be done there, I just wasn't in the right place!

The cabins are lovely and warm, comfortable and kitted out for everything, they sleep 6, 2 double rooms and a sofa bed for 2.

There are 7 lakes to fish, 6 smaller ones and one large (3 acre) lake which has a 32lb mirror carp and a 29lb common carp in...

This is here is my local stretch of river where I escape for a bit of fishing.
I personally prefer river fly fishing as It gives me the option to keep moving and search out the fish.

We have a number of keen fishermen and woman here at eN.
Feel welcome to drop by the fishing boards here and join the discussion

Why dull your knife scraping. Just attach an old P38 can opener.

Its handle piece has rough edges, and scrapes both magnesium and the flint very well.

Attach it to your fire starter, and a knife sharpener and throw  it in with your stove/kitchen kit.

Fire+open cans+sharp knives = happy camper.

In a pinch, the flint and steel spark can start your stove when lighters and matches are wet.

So to further the edge and polish on my knives I decided to try fine tuning the sharpening on a leather strop.

This I've made from a scrap bit of 2 X 1 which I shaped a handle on the end.

The leather is from an old real leather belt, which I cut with a craft knife and glued on with contact adhesive.

Just need to experiment with some different compounds now.
