I've seen similar guides for making char cloth.
A simple and effective fire starting tinder and ideal for a fire starting kit.

I'm going to have a go at making some this weekend.

I have had this knife for must be 7 or 8 years now, it is truly a great little knife, it holds an excellent edge and is easy to maintain.
It has one handed assisted opening although the thumb catch is a little on the small size.

The rainbow style is really different, but does has its downside as this is my second one as the first one just vanished on the bank side - camouflage has a downside

Float fishing is one of the most practiced methods of fishing. It can be done on river, lake or sea and the basics are the same for all places, although tackle will vary.
You can get almost into a trance watching your float waiting for the tell tale sign, be it a faint dip of the float in the water, the raise of the float or the float disappearing as a hungry pike takes bait, hook and everything else in sight.

To get set up you need to purchase some equipment, this can be as expensive as you want it to be, when I started I looked around boot fairs and second hand places, that was some 25...

So I've just ordered a Sawyer Mini water filter.
I really like the versatility of what this water filter seems to offer.

Here's what they say about it on there website.

THE BOOK OF CAMP-LORE
AND WOODCRAFT

BY
DAN BEARD
FOUNDER OF THE FIRST BOY SCOUTS SOCIETY

I've read parts of this book before, first published in 1920 I think.
It is full of useful information and interesting to read of the skills of which many don't change.

Below is a link for a free electronic download of the book.

Here's a neat trick to weather proof your cotton wool to use as a fire starter.
It will also compact it so takes less room in your kit.
Also don't forget to rub into the wool some petroleum jelly to improve burn results.

When you want to use it just cut it or break open
Spread the cotton wool and fluff it up and & light it

One of those little tricks to remember when the majority of firewood available is wet or damp.

It's a simple task with a sharp knife or axe.
You can even make short ones to keep in your fire starter kit, as you cut further up the stick keep the feathers thinner and smaller and they will light from a spark

Why not give it a go and feedback your results
